History of Ellington Medical Appointments Transportation Services (EMATS)
The Senior Center first began transportation
services in 2001 for social, nutritional and
recreational purposes. In 2003, services expanded to offer rides to residents for non-emergency medical appointments through the EMATS program “Ellington Medical Appointments Transportation Services.”
EMATS is partially funded by a grant award from North Central Area Agency on Aging, Inc., NCAAA “funded in part, by the Older American’s Act.” In 2019, the town received grant funding award under FFY 2018 TRADITIONAL SECTION 5310 Capital, Connecticut Department of Transportation for a new bus to replace the existing vehicle.
