Health Center Information
Did you know that our Health Center is filled with a plethora of information and brochures? These brochures are provided by a variety of resources, including the Town of Ellington Elderly Outreach Worker, The Visiting Nurse & Health Services of CT Inc., the State Department on Aging, the Alzheimer's Association and many local providers.  

The doors are generally open during regular business hours for you to pop in and grab information on the following topics:

Ballroom/Polka Dancing

  • Ballroom Beginners: 1-1:30 PM - (will only be held if there is enough interest - call ahead)

  • Intermediate and just for fun:1:30 - 2:30 PM

  • Polka & Fun Dancing: 2:30 - 3 PM

  • Bring in your left feet and we will make them right. Amelia has volunteered for several years teaching groups a little bit of everything from basic steps to fully choreographed dances. Partners and singles are welcome to come and dance to a variety of music. Bring your favorite dancing shoes.

Blood Pressure & Diabetic Screening

  • About the Instructor: Linda Stein is an Ellington resident who is a certified fitness instructor. She is a past Silver Sneakers instructor and has received training with the Arthritis Foundation. All classes will be adapted to meet the participants’ needs.

What is Chair Yoga?

In a Chair Yoga class students participate in a full range of yoga postures, breathing exercises and relaxation and meditation practices. The classes are calming, relaxing and rejuvenating for the body. Anybody is welcome to attend a Chair Yoga class but they are especially suited for older adults and anybody dealing with an injury or illness that causes decreased mobility or pain in the body. It is a gentle class that incorporates healthy movement to keep the muscles, bones and joints of the body healthy and strong.

Come try this fitness class for men and women ages 55+.  Perform a variety of functional movements with and without weights for enhanced core and muscle strength.  You will see personal gains in fitness and balance!  All participants must have a current registration completed prior to starting class.

Health Fitness - Line Dancing

Hand Massage with Kay

Kay has recently been trained in the Healing Hands Touching Hearts Massage Routine.  Hand massages are free and take about 15 minutes.  Please sign up at the front desk for your time slot.  Additional appointments and walk-ins will be accepted, only if time permit

Simple Circuit Fitness - Exercise for Active Adults

  • Instructor: Linda Stein

  • Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays

  • NOTE:  See instructor for monthly rate discount
  • In this class you will focus on strength training and balance. A variety of props are used, including hand weights, elastic bands and balance balls. Participants are asked to bring their own equipment. Dress comfortably and bring a water bottle.
  • Please note that a session consists of 1 class (either Tuesday or Thursday) per week. Session dates will be posted in the Information Center.

Weekday Walking Club

  • Meeting Location: Arbor Park Gazebo

  • The group will meet daily at the gazebo at Arbor Park, weather permitting.  Keep track of your miles, steps and time, and stop in in the Senior Center to add your numbers to the groups' walking log.  If you walk during other times, and can't make the group at that time, it's ok!  Come add your numbers from the day.  Let's see if we can beat last years' numbers while having fun, meeting new people and getting healthy!  All levels are welcome.

Christine has been practicing yoga since 2007 and has taught in a variety of settings including: fitness centers, yoga studios and personal instruction. Please dress comfortably and bring a yoga mat and a towel with you to class.
